Matsuo shrine
During Kamakura period, because the area around lake Tougo was part of Matsuo Grand shrine in Kyouto it is believed to have been stablished enshrining a divine spirit. The present main hall was built in the third year of Homuro period(1706) and served as a place of prayer of Nanjou family in Muromachi period. In November 9th, 1562 it recieved a donation of 75 koku of land from Nanjou Motochiyo. Since ancient times, it has been revered as a God of sake brewing. thats why every year a sake making festival is held on December 13th. You can enjoy searching for sculptures of the twelve zodiac signs in the main hall.
