Nokyobungo (plum)
Nokyobungo (plum) is a large, oval, thick-fleshed plum that is a specialty of the Togo area in Yurihama Town. The fruit can grow up to 5 cm in diameter. From mid to late March, the plum orchards are adorned with pale pink flowers, releasing a sweet, soft fragrance. Green plums are harvested in early June, while fully ripe plums are shipped around June 20. These large plums are popular for processing, and are transformed into pickled plums, plum miso, plum vinegar, plum syrup, and plum jelly, making them beloved by people of all ages.
