Kurayoshi Museum & Kurayoshi Museum of History and Folklore
The buildings in Utsubuki Park are designed to resemble the "white-walled storehouses" (shirakabe dozō) typical of Kurayoshi. In 1975, they received the prestigious BCS Award for architectural excellence. The museum is a comprehensive institution, with exhibits mainly focused on art, archaeology, and folklore.
▪ Art Section: Features works by local artists such as Kanji Maeta (Western-style painting), Tatehiko Suga (Japanese-style painting), and Kurayoshi-born Living National Treasure Kodo Osaka (woodcraft).
▪ Archaeology Section: Displays important cultural artifacts from the Kofun period, including decorative Sue ware ritual tools excavated from sites around Kurayoshi.
▪ Folklore Section: Showcases agricultural tools like the threshing tool senbā and the Taichi-guruma cart, as well as Kurayoshi Kasuri textiles from the Meiji to Taisho periods. The collection includes works by Maeta, Suga, and Osaka, along with traditional tools and textiles like the Taichi-guruma and Kurayoshi Kasuri.
