Oe Shrine
This shrine, established in 1880 (Meiji 13), enshrines Lady Ōe Iwashiro, the birth mother of Emperor Kōkaku, the 119th emperor of Japan. Born in Minato-machi, Kurayoshi in 1744 (Teikyō 1), Lady Ōe Iwashiro went to Kyoto to serve Princess Naruko. When the princess married Prince Kan'in-no-miya Sukehito, Ōe became her lady-in-waiting. In 1771 (Meiwa 8), she gave birth to three imperial princes, including Emperor Kōkaku. She passed away in 1813 (Bunka 9) at the age of 69.
