Monument Commemorating the Visit of Lafcadio Hearn and Setsu.
In August of 1891, Lafcadio Hearn (Koizumi Yakumo) and his wife Setsu visited this area. In 2003, marking the 100th anniversary of Koizumi Yakumo's death, a memorial monument was erected at Yabase Beach to commemorate their visit. Nearby is the former Nakai Ryokan, where Koizumi Yakumo stayed during his honeymoon and which he particularly liked.
