Sstanding at a height of 3.14 meters, the tower was built in the late Kamakura period and features a unique combination of styles from both the hōkyōintō pagoda and the hōtō pagoda. It was named by the late Professor Masatarō Kawakatsu of Kyoto University in 1936.
