The coast of Hokuei Town, which faces the Sea of Japan, is a sandy beach that stretches 12.5 km from east to west. Sand borer fishing is popular in summer. The coastline is lined with 100-meter-high windmills as a symbol of eco-friendly town-planning. The wind farm, completed on November 17, 2005, is one of the largest wind farms directly managed by a municipality in Japan.
