Fukuoji (Temple)
Fukuoji temple is a historical temple of the Shingon-shu Denomination, founded in 901.
It is the fourth temple of the 49 Yakushi Sacred Sites in the Chugoku region. Jibutsu-do(Buddha hall) and Kyakuden (guest hall) were newly built to the northwest of precincts, which can accommodate group Buddhist lectures, etc. (Capacity: up to 200 people).

The Jibutsu-do main hall has a mandala of Dainichi Nyorai of the Vajrayana world on the ceiling. In November, visitors can see the colorful autumn leaves in the precincts. The ceiling paintings in Fukouji temple are designated as Cultural Properties by Maniwa City. Please contact us in advance if you wish to visit the temple hall. Please feel free to visit for a tour of the temple grounds.
Gosho Kodani, the priest of Fukuoji temple, won the grand prix at 'H1 the Houwa, Buddhist lecture Grand Prix 2023' on 2 December 2024, held at the Nara Centennial Hall to determine the number one monk who would most like to meet again through the quality of their Houwa, Buddhist lectures.
