Geographically located as the doorway to the Central Tottori area, Kurayoshi is the main city of the region. During the Muromachi era the construction of Utsubuki castle started the development of the area. Surviving that time, located in the heart of the old district of Kurayoshi, is the Shirakabe Dozogun area, which lies along the Tamagawa River. Now situated mainly in the Akagawara area are many folk crafts, retro themed sites, and various other popular tourist attractions. Also, during the cherry blossom season, Utsubuki Park comes alive. Thought of as the land of Emperor Godaigo, Mt. Senjo, as well as many other places in Kotoura have their names etched in history. Hokuei Town, the birthplace of Gosho Aoyama, creator of "Detective Conan", is a town where you can meet "Detective Conan". The town also offers plentiful gifts from the land and a wide variety of specialty products, such as “Daiei watermelons”, “sand dune nagaimo (long yams)”, grapes, and Japanese shallots grown in the Hojo sand dunes and andosol soil. The nine windmills facing the coastline are a symbol of this environmentally friendly city.

Situated around Lake Togo lies the town Yurihama. The name Yurihama alone summons the images of the prized Nijjiseiki pears, hot springs, and the white beaches along the coast. With an 800 year history, the hot spring town Misasa has come a long way. Said to have been discovered by a monk named Myoken Ｈosatu aided by a white wolf, the spring water boasts the highest radon content in the world.
